To those who celebrate it, I want to wish you all a merry Christmas. I know this time of year can be challenging, especially for those who have lost loved ones or are unable to be with their loved ones for the holidays. Please know you are seen, held and loved by the Divine no matter the circumstances.
If you are feeling some pressure, frustration or conflict right now, also know that we are at the peak of a Saturn-Jupiter square. We got an initial taste of this energy back in August when these two planets first came into this square aspect. Through their retrograde cycles, they shifted away from one another, but are now returning to that challenging formation. The square happens to be exact on Christmas eve.
I’ve mentioned before that these are the two social planets of the zodiac and each has a very contradictory nature to the other. Having them in squared signs makes that energy all-the-more bristly and irritating. I wanted to draw your attention to this dynamic in case you do happen to be feeling some extra irritability right now. Please know the energy will pass.
The good news is that when these two planets come into a square, we also have enormous potential for manifestation and creating big, lasting changes in our lives. The trick is to harness the highest potentials of each planet, in balance with the other. We can also utilize their respective elements to support ourselves in our task.
For example, if you are feeling emotions coming to a boiling point, take a time out to do some quick breathwork (Gemini/Air). Take some deep breaths and tune into yourself to get the energy unstuck and flowing in your body once again. Alternatively, perhaps you can vent a little by talking out your frustrations with a trusted friend or family member. Likewise, if you have the option, you can take a dip in a hot tub or pool, a bath or just a hot shower, setting the intention you want to release what’s no longer serving you. If none of that is available, simply pour yourself a glass of water and set those intentions before drinking it. Water is consciousness, so it can hear your requests and is very glad to assist us when we ask for its help.
Saturn is the planet of discipline, hard work, commitment and routine. It wants us to roll up our sleeves and buckle down to complete whatever goals or tasks we have. It also likes to test us, so even when we do finally set ourselves on that task, it may just throw at us some delays, extra pressures or limitations to see if we can remain steadfast and follow through. The nice thing about Saturn is when we stand up to its tests, it always rewards us for our efforts.
Conversely, Jupiter wants to be free, to expand and enjoy all the fun and pleasure life has to offer. It often graces us with opportunities or good luck to help us experience this energy. While it is good-natured, Jupiter has a tendency to overextend itself through its shadow, making too many promises it cannot complete or neglecting its responsibilities to pursue what is fun or enjoyable. It may get carried away with pleasure (the Hedonist archetype) and feel regret afterward (Why, oh WHY, did I eat that last cookie?).
Together, however, these two planets can make magic happen. Perhaps we’ve committed to cooking Christmas dinner, but have taken on more than we can handle. Jupiter may just grace us with some extra help if we’re wise enough to seize the opportunity when it’s offered. Though it feels overwhelming, if we remain focused and commit to our task through Saturn, we may just make the best damn meal anyone has ever eaten – and get to experience the joy of bringing that magic to other people through our own efforts. As one example.
Saturn really is our anchor through this time because the other monkey wrench in this energy pattern is that this Jupiter-Saturn square is actually a T-square. Now-direct Mercury is moving into an opposition with Jupiter which will become exact on December 27th, just in time for the new moon in Capricorn and Chiron turning direct. This implies that communication and perception is playing a big role in our frustrations right now, but also that there is a healing process underway. When Chiron turns direct on December 29th, we may have some sort of breakthrough in our self-awareness, especially as juxtaposed to our personal relationships.
We’ll save those details for a later article, but just know this energy is in the mix and Mercury is adding fuel to the fire as it opposes Jupiter and likewise squares Saturn (family discussions of politics, anyone?). I’ve mentioned before that when we experience T-squares, the “solution” to the energy conflict lies in the apex planet, or the planet that is being mutually squared. In this case, if we can discipline ourselves and find the resolve not to engage with conflict or appease flibbertigibbets (yes, that’s a real word), we can tap into a sense of stillness, peace and compassion amidst these chaotic influences. Once again, utilizing and meditating on the element of water during this time can help us accomplish that.
I wish you all peace, love, connection and so much joy during this holiday period. May these energies serve your growth, healing and higher purpose. Much love to you all.
